Read this report to find out more about them How to apply for an item Over the last financial year we reported 36 cases detailing a wide range of objects acquired for the nation worth almost £54 million. There are currently no items available for permanent allocation. In those cases items are advertised here and organisations are invited to apply for an item to be allocated to their institution. Sometimes items are Accepted in Lieu or offered under the Cultural Gifts Scheme without a condition as to allocation. Where their offer is accepted and the minister (and HMC in the case of manuscripts) agrees to the allocation, the object is transferred to that institution as soon as the offer is completed.įind out more about the Acceptance in Lieu schemeįind out how to offer an item for Acceptance in Lieu Offers can be conditional on allocation to a particular institution. For manuscripts, allocation recommendations are made by the Historical Manuscripts Commissioner (HMC) at The National Archives. The Acceptance in Lieu Panel advises ministers on all items offered under the scheme and on the allocation of objects. Material accepted under the scheme is allocated to public museums, archives or libraries by the appropriate minister and is available for all.
